Why is editing this info better suited for the view screen than the edit
screen, where everything else is edited?

No, it can be changed on the customer edit screen.

The web interface is old and crufty compared to the library code it sits
on top of. We're currently discussing things more at the level of "how
are we going to rewrite this" rather than specific UI changes. (Current
plan is to use a generic template language that will export to Mason,
Apache::ASP or eperl). I'm not going to reject patches/changes (there
will probably be a 1.2.4 release before the template stuff is implemented)
and will even do my best to translate them into the new templated web
interface - but heads up - anything ending in .cgi is depriciated code. :)
